Note spacing

The current version of CelticPipes allows notes and embellshments to be spaced horizontally (within the bar margins) using 3 different methods:

  1. Manual
  2. Even
  3. By value
The default is Manual for compatiblity with previous versions of CelticPipes.

When you press the button to space notes i.e. (on the main toolbar), the currently selected spacing method will be applied to all notes.

Description

- Manual allows you to place and move notes with the mouse (or arrow keys) to any position on the stave. All the other settings use an automatic spacing. If you use any other spacing and you want to move a note manually, you'll need to set the spacing method back to Manual. Pressing the button with Manual selected will apply an Even spacing to the notes. NB: None of the other methods will allow you to manually position notes.

- Even will position notes evenly when you drop them on. Pressing the button will have no effect in this case as the notes are already spaced evenly.

- By value will position notes by value when you drop them on. Pressing the button will have no effect in this case as the notes are already positioned by value. By value uses a recognised mathematical method to position notes, allowing for any embellishments.

    This methods has two sub-options:

Configuration

The settings used by the note spacing methods can be configured on the Note spacing screen. This is invoked either by right-clicking on the note spacing button on the main toolbar or by selecting the Note Spacing item on the Tools menu.

This screen allows you to set the current spacing method using the Method list:

The other settings allow you to set minimum and preferred distance between notes and after grace notes ( all in mm). The preferred value will be used if there is space in a measure, if not, the min will be used.

The bar margins can also be set. This defines the available space for notes to be positioned in.
