Adding Notes
Notes and rests are added by dropping them from the Basic Toolbar in the Editing pane, on to the stave lines.
The basic toolbar contains buttons corresponding to notes and rests and simple modifications them. Leave the mouse pointer over the button to see the name/value of a note, or function of another button.
The process of adding a note begins by clicking on the button corresponding to the note to be dropped. When a note button is clicked, it will latch in. Now if you click anywhere in a bar, a note or rest will appear in the bar. As the note is latched in, clicking again one or more times in the bar will add more notes. To unlatch a
button, press on it again or press on another button.
Tips:
- If you have added an extra note or rest by mistake, choose Undo from the Edit menu and the note will disappear. Remember: there are up to 10 undo levels available.
- You can make extra space for notes in a bar by moving the barline, or by switching the score into landscape mode.
- The use of Bar Copy can often speed up note entry.
- To change the number of tails on a grace note, treat it like any other note i.e. use the buttons to halve or double note its value. See operations on notes for details.
The grace note button may be used to add a flam for percussion scores. It this case, it will change its appearance slightly when dropped on to the score.
Moving, spacing and deleting notes is described here.
The toolbar contains other buttons which are used to modify and group notes.
